ISO 9001 QUALITY MANAGMENT SYSTEM

ISO 9001 Quality Management System came into existence in the year 1987 and is a generic standard for managing the processes of an organisation. The standard got subsequently revised from a procedural approach to Process based approach. The present standard has been revised on 2008.

"Generic" means that the same standards can be applied:

- to any organization, large or small, whatever its product including whether its "product" is actually a service, in any sector of activity, and whether it is a business enterprise, a public administration, or a government department.

"Generic" also signifies that no matter what the organization's scope of activity, if it wants to establish a quality management system, then such a system has a number of essential features for which the relevant standards of the ISO 9000 families provide the requirements.

"Management system" refers to the organization's structure for managing its processes - or activities - that transform inputs of resources into a product or service which meet the organization's objectives, such as satisfying the customer's quality requirements, complying to regulations, or meeting environmental objectives.

"Generic" means that the same standards can be applied:
Managing costs and risks
Increasing effectiveness and productivity
Iidentifying improvement opportunities
Increasing customer satisfaction

A well-managed quality system has an impact on:
Customer loyalty and repeat business
Market share
Operational efficiencies
Flexibility and ability to respond to market opportunities
Effective and efficient use of resources
Cost reductions
Competitive advantages
Participation and motivation of human resources
Iindustry reputation
Control on all processes

The objectives of Quality Management System meet all of the above in some form or the other. The system is practical and accessible to all employees within the organisation.
