As part of the broader follow-up actions towards expanding the domestic vendor base, Indian Register of Shipping undertook dedicated initiatives to create awareness among MSMEs and promote indigenous manufacturing of shipbuilding components. Two major outreach programmes were conducted at Kolhapur and Coimbatore.

1. Manufacturer’s Encouragement Drive – Kolhapur, 26 November 2025
   Supported by: Marathi Chamber of Commerce (Kolhapur Branch) & GOSHIMA (Gokul Shirgaon Manufacturers Association)

This outreach event was aimed at creating awareness among MSMEs about opportunities in the maritime and shipbuilding sector and encouraging participation in marine component manufacturing under IRS guidance. The event was graced by Mr. Kiran Patil, CMD – Ghatge Patil Industries Ltd. as Chief Guest, along with other industry leaders and dignitaries.

The event received strong engagement from various MIDCs within the Kolhapur and neighbouring manufacturing belt.

2. Awareness Session on – Marine Component Certification, Type Approval & Works Approval – Coimbatore

IRS, in collaboration with SIDA (South Indian Defence Suppliers and Startups Association) conducted an awareness programme for the MSMEs about marine component certification for classification of ships, type approvals and works approvals.

The event was conducted during SIDA Defence EXPO organised at Rathinam Grand Hall, Coimbatore on 5^th of December 2025.
