CSSRC: Comparative Study on Springing Responses of Containership 20,000TEU

  • The "Comparative Study on Springing Responses of 20000 TEU Container ship" (CSSRC-20000TEU) is a Joint Industry Project (2018 – 21) by the China Ship Scientific Research Centre. The project is proposed to carry out the benchmark on hydroelastic model test and computational comparisons for 20000TEU class container ships in the current market. The project aims to establish a reliable and accurate standard ship model test database, validate numerical methods, and form hydroelastic analysis standards and guidelines for predicting wave-induced springing and slam-induced whipping.

  • The JIP includes active member participation and stakeholders from leading classification societies, ship building industries and academia.

Objectives of the project are:

  • perform benchmark study involving existing methods/software for hydroelastic analysis by comparing with measurements of large scale model tests

  • provide a standard model test database which can be considered for verification and validation

  • provide critical information for establishing standard procedures/guidelines for numerical prediction of hydroelastic responses including springing and whipping
