NovaHULL

About the Software:

NovaHULL is a rule-based scantling calculation software that assists users in verifying the compliance of ship structures against

  1. July 2024 version and later of IRS Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Steel Vessels
  2. July 2025 version and later of Common Structural Rules (CSR) for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers.
  3. 2023 version of IRS Rules and Regulations for the Construction and Classification of Indian Naval Ships

It supports the design of multiple ship types and also multiple frames of a single ship within the same file. The in-house developed OpenGL based modeller allows the User to create transverse sections which can be analysed for global strength, local yield and buckling compliance. It is capable of carrying out detailed iterative analyses of sections within a few seconds. The software is additionally capable of evaluating longitudinal strength and buckling analysis in diminished condition for thickness measurement (TM) and condition assessment (CAP) surveys

Key Features:

  • Intuitive Modeler with standard CAD functions
  • Specific ship section modelling wizards (Plate/ stiffener modelling, compartment generation, panel generation, model review)
  • Rule-based scantling assessment for IRS Rules and Regulations for Steel Vessels (July 2024 onwards for both L ≥ 90[m] and L < 90[m] categories)
  • Load computations (Accelerations, Global Loads, external and internal local loads for all load sets and dynamic load cases)
  • Hull Girder Yield Strength
  • Hull Girder Ultimate Strength
  • Hull Local Scantlings (Minimum thickness requirements, Plating, and stiffener scantling requirements)
  • Prescriptive Buckling Assessment (Slenderness requirements, buckling requirements calculation and buckling capacity assessment for plates and stiffeners)
  • Longitudinal Strength and Buckling assessment for TM and CAP Surveys
  • Customized calculators for specific structural elements
  • Result visualizer for failed elements and specific types of failures (yield/buckling)

Minimum System Requirements
Following are the minimum system requirements for smooth operation of the software:

Component  Minimum Requirement
Processor  2.5GHz clock speed
RAM 4GB
GPU Any GPU compatible with OpenGL 3.3
Operating System Windows 10
HDD Space 10GB
PDF Reader Adobe Acrobat, Foxit

We have added following new features in v5.2.0

  1. Incorporates rule changes proposed as per July 2026 version of IRS Main Rules, FOU Rules and Common Structural Rules
  2. Bottom Slamming and Bow Impact Tools added to Naval Rules module
  3. Superstructure tool incorporated into Naval Rules module
  4. Additional calculations for Fin Stabilizer incorporated in Rudder Tool for Naval Rules

Ships contracted for construction before 1st July 2024 as per Main rules must use IRHULL application.
