In recent years transportation of dangerous goods has undergone significant growth. With the increase of dangerous goods transported in the world, it became ever more important that all involved in the supply chain understand the basic concepts of transporting, storing & handling dangerous goods appropriately in order to reduce the risks related to these activities.
IMDG Code 1.3.1. mandates that the shore-based personnel engage in the transport of dangerous goods intended to be transported by sea shall be trained in the contents of dangerous goods provisions commensurate with their responsibilities.
The IMDG Code lays down basic principles on the transport of dangerous goods by sea. It contains detailed recommendations for individual substances, materials and articles and a number of recommendations for good operational practice, including advice on terminology, packing, labelling, stowage, segregation and handling and emergency response action.
